Letter of Reference

Prerequisites for a letter of reference

We are pleased about your interest in a letter of reference from our institute.
In the following, we provide you with some information on our requirements for students to qualify for receiving a letter of reference from our institute.

Letter of reference for the application process for a Master degree:

  1. A main prerequisite is the participation with above average success in at least one of our specialization courses in accounting held for higher semesters (lecture, seminar), bachelor thesis at our institute or contact with the insitute otherwise (e.g., as a tutor or student assistant). Please understand that a letter of reference from our institute cannot serve its expected purposes in any other case.
  2. Please send your current transcript of records (as automatically generated via the online examination office) and your CV to the Institute's management (e.pachta@lmu.de) in order for your request to be examined. Without these documents we cannot help you. Let us know in advance if you have special requests with respect to your letter of reference.
  3. Various universities are not satisfied with a basic letter of reference but require specific documents which have to be filled out by us. Please do not forget to bring these documents with you. Without these documents we cannot help you. More than a general letter of recommendation ("to whom it may concern") can only be filled out for students that did participate in more than just one lecture, as this kind of assessment requires further information together with assessment of the personality.
  4. After a thorough examination of your documents, we will contact you. It is possible that a face-to-face meeting is necessary. Please note that this process can take some time. Therefore get in touch with us in time (at least 4 weeks in advance).

Letter of reference for a scholarship program and other certificates:

  1. A main prerequisite is the successful participation in at least one of our courses held for higher semesters (lecture, seminar), bachelor thesis at our institut or contact with the insitute otherwise (e.g., as a tutor or student assistant). Please note that most scolarship programs require outstanding grades; we have to consider that obviously when deciding for a preparation of a letter of reference.
  2. At first please send your current transcript of records (as automatically generated via the online examination office) and your CV to the Institute's management (e.pachta@lmu.de) in order for your request to be examined. Furthermore, describe the purpose for which you need this certificate and send us all required documents (e.g. template of the foundation you are applying at). Let us know in advance if you have special requests with respect to your letter of reference.
  3. As this kind of assessment requires further information together with some extent of assessment of the personality, we can only issue it for students that did not only visit a lecture, but just for those we know personally and therefore assess properly. 
  4. Please note that this process can take some time. We will respond to your request as quickly as possible. Therefore get in touch with us in time (at least 4 weeks in advance).
